I felt like talking about the plot that came to mind around from my Barriss and Temple Guard action figures.

Now going to the plot trigger, it's Anakin. Of course it is, he's the Chosen One.

The real trigger is Anakin's spirit, circa *Ahsoka*, is sent back in time, to a bit over a year before the Clone Wars starts (so Anakin is, physically, 17-18) . This has knock-on effects as other people start gaining future memories from Anakin's timeline.

The first he knows is Obi-Wan gaining a lifetime of memories. Gaining future memories leaves a person mentally and emotionally unbalanced for a little while, though for Anakin and Obi-Wan it is relatively easy to recover from.

More people gradually gain future memories - a tiny 12-yr-old Ahsoka has a bit of a panic attack in the middle of class and her emotional spike pings Anakin.

Quinlan Vos has a freak-out and proceeds to camp on Obi-Wan and Anakin's sofa for a couple of days, and Aayla is confused.

Caleb Dume, all of 8 years of age, barrels into Ahsoka, hugging the kriff out of her.

But the big event is Anakin is in the immediately vicinity when a Temple Guard goes into a frenzied panic. Anakin, picking up weird Force impressions, intercepts the Guard and helps him through the flip-flopping of his Force Signature. The Guard takes off his mask in the process and shows a familiar Pau'an face to Anakin and the recently arrived Obi-Wan.

(Out of need to give him a name other than "Grand Inquisitor", I will call him "Tirin" which is derived from Tolkien Elvish for "Guard" (see Minas Tirith).)

Anakin is able to get Tirin stabilised, as his emotional instability was a lot more severe, since he died on the Dark Side and gets Dark memories dumped on a Light Side mind.

This is what happens when any Inquisitors get memories - it usually happens when one of the other returnees is within view, so they usually call in Anakin who is the best at helping new returnees rebalance.

Amongst others who return:

Cal Kestis is spotted by Caleb in the Initiate Dorm common room.

Ahsoka comes to a gathering of the returnees with a hover-pram, occupied by a tiny Grogu. Grogu prefers to stay in Ahsoka's care, as she understands where he came from (having met Din).

Inquisitors like Lyn Rakish (maybe 20? I peg her as slightly older than Barriss, but already knighted, only recently).

Eleventh Brother collapses while walking past an Initiate class with Ahsoka in it. He initially tries to attack her, but gets pinned long enough that Ahsoka is able to calm him enough for others to arrive.

Both Cere Junda and Trilla Suduri remember at the same time. Cere is able to help Trilla herself.

Marrok just glomps onto Ahsoka because she is familiar from his new memories.

Deyla (borrowing the name for Seventh Sister from a fanfic) starts following Caleb until he notices.

Other returnees:

Obi-Wan gets a call from Padmé, who also gets memories. She organises to meet them when she next comes to Coruscant. A couple of weeks later they go to meet her, to find Shmi in her company. Shmi is only there temporarily, and intends to return to Tatooine, because she is married to Cliegg, but Padmé arranged for the trip so she could see Anakin.

A child Nightsister turns up at the Temple seemingly by random. Despite his class teacher's protests, Cal (all of 6 years old) barrels into the mezzanine to hug her. There is a lot of debate in the High Council, but Merrin cheerfully refuses to leave, sticking to Cal's side. Ahsoka quite loudly yells at the Councillors saying they should be more compassionate to a Force Sensitive child seeking the protection of the Jedi. When protests about her age are brought up, Ahsoka remains very loud in her arguments that Merrin feels quite Light and already has some basic Force training she obviously received on Dathomir. Obi-Wan and Quinlan both come in to also defend her, as she is obviously one of their Returnees. The Council grumble and argue, but give a provisional allowance for Merrin to stay.

Caleb gets a grumpy, sociopathic astromech following him around. This prompts the discovery of a kyber crystal embedded in the droid's systems, bonded to the memory centre. Chopper is just ornery as hell, but insists on staying with Caleb. This however does prompt Anakin go over to visit Padmé, who calls in Artoo. Yes, Artoo has future memories, and yes, also has a kyber embedded in his own memory centre. Finding out if C-3PO has the same cannot be checked as he is on Tatooine, but Anakin has plans to check when he has a chance to visit.

Another couple of random arrivals from outside:

A young green Twi'Lek girl is chased by thugs right to the Temple entrance. Tirin is on duty and has an inkling to step in and protect her. As it turns out, it is Hera Syndulla, adamant to find Caleb Dume. As soon as Caleb's classes are over, both he and Chopper all but tackle Hera.

A teenage Coruscanti human boy comes to the Temple and is asking after Kanan Jarrus. Turns out, it is Alexandr Kallus. He came to the Temple asking for the Jedi he knew would probably be there. There is confusion as to who he is talking about, until one of the Returnee Inquisitors hears it and is able to call the others.

It is a while later that a Lasat diplomatic group comes to Coruscant. Padmé is discussing this event with Obi-Wan and Anakin, which catches Anakin's attention, and he insists he wants to meet them. Anakin prompts Obi-Wan to arrange for Ahsoka to come with them, and as it turns out? A Guardsman of the envoy is none other than Garazeb Orrelios. Because Kallus is a non-Sensitive, Padmé had taken him on as a junior member of her staff. He climbs Zeb like a tree. Yes, he is a tad young, but is glad to be reunited with his husband.

Another situation is when Obi-Wan gets a call from Bo-Katan Kryze. She arranges a meeting in Little Keldabe, and when Obi-Wan - and Ahsoka - get there, they find a teenage Traditionalist apprentice Armourer in her company. Ahsoka does in fact know what the Armourer looks like from Grogu's memories, so she recognises the bronze coloured helmet. It is not quite the same helmet Grogu remembers, but it is traditional Goran style. The Children of the Watch are affiliated with Death Watch, so it was pretty easy for her and Bo-Katan to ally up in their shared memories.

The thought that prompted this plot? Barriss is walking through one of the back corridors when the memories hit her, right as a Temple Guard is passing the other way. He notices, stops to help her, and pulls off his mask, knowing this is yet another Inquisitor, as short as Barriss's stay in the organisation was. Of course Barriss recognises Tirin. that is the exact reason he showed his face. In her emotionally unstable state, she kisses him. He is a bit confounded by that, but supports her until others arrive to also help her stablise. It does however prompt an odd affair to start between them.

Barriss is actually a bit confounded to hear that Darth Vader is amongst the Returnees, and Tirin tells her that yes, the Dark Lord who was master of the Inquisitorius is in fact a Jedi. When she comes to her first Returnee gathering, a meeting where they go over everything they are in the process of doing to change the future, she is constantly lookign around the group, trying to work out which one who she doesn't immediately recognise as an Inquisitor could be Vader. It is later when she and Ahsoka talk, it is Ahsoka who lets her know it is Anakin, and that he returned to the Light before his death, and was a Force Ghost after he died.

Another returnee that happens after is none other than Luminara Unduli. She is actually very quiet about it, and watches the movement of people around her, especially Barriss. She in fact follows Barriss when she goes to meet up with Tirin and head for another Returnee meeting. Considering around half the group are made up of Inquisitors, Luminara is very untrusting of a few faces she recognises, but then the likes of Caleb, Obi-Wan, Cere, and Quinlan end up talking her down enough to get her to pay attention to Force Signatures, and see everyone is Light.

Later however Luminara nitpicks at Barriss about her friendship (with benefits) with Tirin. Barriss however is not willing to back down - she returned to the Light, worked as a Healer for a good few years, and her brief time as an Inquisitor is a guide to what not to every become again. On top of that, all the Inquisitors are solid in wanting to make things truly better. They are in the Light, here and now, and are firm that they will stay so, Tirin included. Barriss even makes mention that Darth Vader is with them, standing in the Light. That sends Luminara into a tizzy that has her going to Obi-Wan, pestering him about it. Obi-Wan in turn does his best to calm her until Anakin comes in and bids her to look at him, sense his Force Signature. After she says he feels Light, and why is he prompting this, he lets her know he was the one who was Vader.

On the broader plot, the Inquisitorius+ are working to change events, and if they can't stop the war entirely, they will do their best to change it's direction.

I am inclined to say I do also want some Clones as Returnees, but they are on Kamino, and there are roadblocks to them reaching out to the Jedi before the set-up to lure the Jedi in. However they network in secret and start plotting behind the scenes, ending up finding that they have a mole right in Prime's own quarters, in the form of Boba.
