After finishing my audit of my various muses and alter egos I came to the conclusion that I want to post the various background stories for the various groups I listed.
So here I'm starting on that task with USS Sevilia and the original incarnation of The House of §trange.
All of the denizens of the USS Sev Ho§ had their origins from before my online days and though the names and basic personalities are the same their roles have been bent to fit new molds.
Given here is a piece I wrote a long time ago about how the Sev-Ho§ was organised.
Some of the details are heavily Star Trek-associated due to Sevilia being based ultimately on Star Trek.
The House of §trange
The House of §trange is an interdimensional pocket that is the location of an extraordinary community.
From the inside (The outside doesn't give one much of a view), the House is always "indoors". There is no such thing as an outdoor area, everything has walls and ceiling.
The House's warren-like series of rooms and corridors covers an estimated area close to the size of a large city.
The House itself is a semi-sentient being who is responsible for maintaining telepathic links between all residents thereby creating a telepathic landscape that acts in a manner similar to that of the old Earth community, the internet.
Few major locations within the House itself include The Grand Foyer, The Dycor chamber, the Akeirrii Sector and the West Wing.
The Grand Foyer is the first place one is likely to see when entering the House. It is a huge room decorated with clusters of lounges and armchairs, coffee tables, decorative lamps with lamp tables, the occasional bookcase….
The most noticeable thing about the Foyer is it's complete lack of attention to gravity. The same clusters of seating that can be found on floor of the room can also be found on the walls and ceiling. Looking up to see the bald spot on the head of some gentleman relaxing in a comfy chair reading on the ceiling is a common place sight in the Grand Foyer.
The Dycor chamber is, quite simply, a cavern. The room resembles the inside of a cave. In the middle of the cavern is located the Dycor, an incandescent, ever shifting pillar of light. The Dycor is the core of §trangespace. It is always maintained by Kitanya Colourmane who is rarely seen outside the chamber.
The Dycor chamber has no other immediately apparent features but is known to have one of the larger plains of flat rock along one wall that can act as a view screen on virtually anything in the multiverse.
The Akeirrii sector is a set location in the mindscape of the House. It is a public forum where people can air grievances, hold debates, run opinion poles and post telepathic messages in a discussion board style. It is one of the major hubs of the T-net or telepathic net of the House.
The West Wing is a section of the House that has gone wild.
At one point the west wing was just another area of §trange where people lived, worked, played but quite suddenly people started fleeing the area saying that monsters were taking and killing people.
What is known of the modern west wing is that there are large tracts where the walls are covered with creepers and vines obscuring them so completely that you would think you were in a jungle instead of the House. Some areas have walls that have transmuted into stonework giving some corridors the feel of ruined temples.
The West Wing has become the haunt of many wild creatures (some residents of §trange are sentient wild beasts that still long for that jungle feel), not all of which are particularly safe to be around.
Only the bravest of §trangers would be willing to enter the West Wing and even then, they'd be armed to the teeth.
The People of §trange
The House of §trange has an estimated population of 187,247 sentient entities.
These people originate from across the whole of the multiverse.
There are three basic types of §tranger that reside in the House, immigrant §trangers, born §trangers and the Houseborn.
Immigrant §trangers are people from anywhere in the multiverse who have been given shelter and residence within the House for what ever reason, they could be lost interdimensional travellers, hunted by this or that powerful enemy or just in need of a home.
Born §trangers are people born and raised in the House. The majority of born §trangers are descendants of born §trangers. There has developed dynasties of born §trangers, an aristocracy has developed amongst the population, the longer a family line has been resident in the House the higher they are. There are some §trangers that have never been out side the House, never seen the panorama of a planet's surface, would probably freak out if they did see it.
The born §trangers make up seventy-five percent of the current population of §trange.
The Houseborn are the most rare and mysterious of the peoples of §trange.
"§tranger than most" is a common phrase used about the Houseborn.
Most of them have powers of some sort or another. Most of them follow the church of the Mother §trange. Most have positions working for the administration of the House.
Nobody is completely sure how the Houseborn come into being.
The Houseborn are created by the powers of the House itself. Usually they have an amazingly broad genetic pattern that is the synthesis of the genetic patterns of a large cross section of the population.
The common occurrence is that some unsuspecting §tranger will discover an apparently newborn baby somewhere in the House. When discovered a Houseborn baby is found it usually taken straight to the authorities who find a suitable adoptive family to place the child with. Once in a while though a Houseborn does not get to the authorities. Raising a Houseborn child is a mark of honour amongst the peoples of §trange, some people who have found Houseborn have petitioned to raise the infant themselves. There has been a couple of instances where a person has found a Houseborn child and made out that it was a child of a close relative or something along that line. These instances have caused problems because Houseborn usually need special training to use their abilities and Kitanya likes to keep track of them so none go wrong.
There has only been a couple of Houseborn that have ever irreparably gone wrong but in both cases the trouble that they caused was disastrous and wide-ranging.
There has been some Houseborn that have not been found as infants because they appeared in the West Wing. These ones tend to be wild people who are eminently suited to survival in the West Wing but get confused and easily startled by the more respectable areas of the House.
Important People in the House
Kitanya Colourmane and Tael Melonde are the joint leaders of the House of §trange.
Kitanya appears as a tall woman with hair that consists of streaks of every conceivable natural hair colour imaginable. She is also known as the Rainbow Unicorn because on rare occasions she is known to wander the House in the form of a white unicorn with a rainbow coloured mane and tail.
Kitanya keeps a constant watch on everything in §trange from her place in the Dycor chamber. Everything in §trange registers in the patterns within the Dycor itself and Kitanya is the only one who knows how to read it.
Kitanya is almost never seen outside the House. In those ultra-rare times she is seen outside the House one knows that something truly, universe-shakingly bad is happening.
Kitanya's personal history before the founding of the House is a mystery.
Tael Melonde is roving member of the House's leadership team.
Tael appears to be a honey blonde teenage girl with antennae and a fine covering of golden fur over fair bit of her body.
Before the founding of the House, Tael was the Tristedinanamaya (queen) of the Carrofidicedistiarnnamayan (Carrofid for short) people. She was deposed by her cousin Sharni Melondi and hunted right out of her home universe.
While wandering the multiverse she met Kitanya and the two of them started to gather together a group of interdimensional cast-aways and founded the House of §trange.
Tael has a daughter by the name of Selaarhnya. Who Sel's father is is a closely guarded secret of Tael's.
Selaarhnya is the House's envoy back to Tael's home world.
Aariaine (Ari for short) is the head of the House's fighting forces. Along with her to daughters, Halli and Corrina she manages all of the House's military.
Peliona is the high priestess of the church of the Mother §trange and mistress of the colleges of wisdom, prestigious schools which the best of the peoples of §trange always attend.
Tarlia is probably the most powerful resident of §trange. She and her sister originate from Sevspace where her powers had attracted the attention of the Q Continuum.
Tarlia is only a very recent immigrant of the House having only been there for twenty years. (It is through Tarlia's powers that her sister Nina has not aged in this time. Tarlia has stated she will not give up her sister without a fight)
Virtually everyone in the House holds a healthy fear of Tarlia, this is the girl, who at thirteen, threatened to destroy the Q. The only person that has absolutely no fear of Tarlia is her sister Nina.
Harliquin is probably the oldest and most mysterious of all the Houseborn. She always wears brilliantly coloured bodysuit and a mask. She has long silvery hair that sticks out in al sorts of wild directions.
Tael and Harliquin are Tarlia's closest friends.
Briieth is the doorkeeper of §trange.
She is one of the House's founding members.
She was the resident spirit and interdimensional bridge in a grand temple on a world renowned for it's amazing cultural achievements but when interdimensional marauders swooped down on her universe they destroyed everything of the cultural history of Briieth's world.
Briieth was left floating through space inside a piece of fire crystal, a remnant of a sculpture in honour of her world's supreme deity. By sheer accident the crystal that Briieth was trapped in lodged itself in one of a star liner's manovering thrusters. On board the star liner was Tael, sight-seeing in Briieth's home universe by way of working on board luxury cruisers. When the piece of crystal was removed from the truster the captain of the star liner was going the simply throw it away but Tael managed to beg it off him as a knick-knack for her collection of keepsakes she was collecting. It was at this point she discovered that this piece of crystal had Briieth within it. The two of them became good friends and not once did Briieth's knowledge of millennia of her people's history and collected wisdom help Tael out of a bad situation.
Besides being the doorkeeper of §trange Briieth also maintains a sector of the TN that is a virtual reality recreation of her home world as a memorial.
Meharni is a Houseborn cat. She was "born" in the West Wing and although she doesn't mind wandering the tamer areas of the House she still prefers the feline ranges of the Wild West (an in joke in the House).
Meharni has no love for anything remotely canine and very little for virtually everything else.
Meharni's wanderings throughout the House makes her one of the few who know most of it's layout making her one of the House's best guides.
Meharni is one of the most respected figures in feline §trange.
Merryweather Kyla Sardinia, more commonly known as Mimi Fish is one of the Houseborn that is considered to be close to "going wrong".
She is a mischief-maker extraordinaire and is fond of a type of malicious practical jokes that angers virtually everyone.
Tarlia in particular dislikes Mimi with a fury that sometimes scares people with it's intensity.
Mimi's favourite pranks are anything that has to do with throwing fish at people, this is a habit that Meharni likes (cat - fish, fish - cat, cat eat fish, cat like girl with fish).
Mimi is a teenage girl with numerous peircings. Her natural hair colour is a dark brown but she bleaches it to a yellow blonde.
She likes to wear blue jeans and high-cut tops (usually emblazoned with either the word fish or a representation of a fish) and almost always wears her hair in pigtails.
Hyperbole is one of the younger Houseborn.
She doesn't like to say how old she is (probably because she considers herself mostly human) but she has been around, associating with great and powerful of Sevspace for at least a couple of thousand years or so.
She works as the Sevspace envoy of §trange but is currently based on the sevship USS Sevilia.
Hyperbole is the one who has to deal with such beings as Q. She is the one who persuaded Tarlia to join the House of §trange so as to protect Sevspace from the fury of the unpredictable new power.
The Keeper War
The Keepers are an interdimensional race that considers themselves the policemen of the multiverse.
The Keepers consider the House of §trange to be unnatural and wish to eradicate them and erase all evidence of their interference with "innocent" universes.
The House has been waging a war with the Keepers for millennia and so far have managed to maintain the upper hand.
As yet Kitanya has not felt it necessary to unleash Tarlia against the Keepers, Tarlia is being held in reserve as a weapon of last resort.
Of all the §trangers the most lingering one is Mimi Fish who has managed to reinvent herself to practically every fandom I have been in.
So here I'm starting on that task with USS Sevilia and the original incarnation of The House of §trange.
