Nightlands: The Caverns of Leviathan

This came to me when contemplating Leviathan, his place of residence and his Kraken servitors.

No one actually knows what Leviathan's body is shaped like, so people can imagine him as a huge underwater pancake, or sting-ray shaped thing lying on the seas floor, but this image does not immediately explain the caverns. Other ideas on his shape debate if he's a giant squid himself, or octopus, or even a hive mind of intelligent and highly arcane coral.

There are both upper and lower caverns that have become known to exist over the millennia. The Upper Caverns are reasonably well-known, as they exist amongst eons of coral growing on Leviathan's upper surface. These caverns tend to be the home of various sea-dwelling races, like Merfolk, Merrow, Tritons and Sea Elves, as well as numerous sea animals. Leviathan even has a handful of Turtle Islands (giant sea turtles that are big enough to be modest mobile islands) that migrate around his back.

The Lower Caverns of Leviathan are considered near mythical, but just enough is known about them to know that they do truly exist.

The Lower Caverns are located under Leviathan (which is why people question Leviathan's exact shape). Almost know one has seen these caverns in person, even amongst the Sea Folk, but they are known to be the homes of several deep sea creatures, including the breeding and nesting grounds of the Krakens.

The same line of thinking had me thinking of Endánórë as the guard post of his house prior to Nightfall.

I had a follow-up thought on this subject, about the residents of the sea, especially after re-reading somethign in the Waystones post about underwater waystones and the western border of the Nightlands, it would be logical for the majority of the Seafolk populations to live on and around Leviathan. If there are plenty of coral seacaves on Leviathan's back, those would be inhabited by much of the sea races, including the biggest populations of Merfolk and Sea Elves.

I do think there are also population centre east of Endánórë, where the island acts as a major barrier between them and the Nighlands border. Other than that, I would imagine other population spots tend to be close to the mainland coastlines.
